Mesa, Ariz. - Andrea Sida's overtime goal, gave the Golden Eagles a 4-3 win over Benedictine University, in Saturday night's Cal Pac match-up. The win snapped a four-match losing streak and pushed the team's record 4-3 in conference play and 6-5 overall. The win also salvaged a game on the Golden Eagles two matches played on their Arizona trip.
La Sierra jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, with back-to-back goals in a span of one minute and six seconds, on unassisted goals by Marisol Bravo and Mariah Anaya. The Redhawks cut the lead in half with a goal just prior to the halftime buzzer, in the 41stminute. They scored the equalizer just eight seconds into the second half, then took the lead with their third unanswered goal in the 54thminute.
The Golden Eagles tied the score, just five minutes later, when Savannah Aborqui scored an unassisted goal in the 59thminute to round-out the scoring in regulation. With the score tied 3-3, the two teams entered the overtime period, until Sida's goal, in the 98thminute put an end to the match and sealed the victory for La Sierra.
Next up for the women's soccer team will be a home match, versus Simpson University, on Thursday evening, at 6pm. The Red Hawks 1-6 in the Cal Pac (1-10 overall) this season. They are a program that returned this season after suspending play, as a program, last season.
