Riverside, Calif. - Carrying the momentum from their overtime victory over Benedictine University, the Golden Eagles women's soccer team defeated Simpson University, 7-0, in Thursday night's Cal Pac match. La Sierra pushed their overall record to 7-5, while improving to an even 4-4 in Cal Pac play with the win. The team has two remaining regular season matches, which they need to win, and get some help along the way to stay alive in the playoff picture.
The Golden Eagles scored four of their seven goals in the first half of play. Jennifer Medina started the scoring, in the 23rdminute, on an assist by Alicia Garcia. Marisol Bravo pushed the lead to 2-0, with an assist from Marissa Gonzalez. Bravo factored in on the third score for La Sierra when she found Mariah Anaya, in the 36thminute, pushing the lead to 3-0. And just one second before the halftime buzzer, Emily Pedroza found the back of the net, on assists from Anelis Villalobos and Bravo.
Anaya added her second goal of the match, unassisted, in the 66thminute, pushing the lead to 5-0. Closing out the scoring for the Golden Eagles was Savannah Aborqui and Yasmin Montelongo who each scored an unassisted goal, in the 73rdminute and 87thminute, respectively.
The Golden Eagles finished with a distinct advantage in total shots, 27-2, and shots on goal, 16-1.
The women's soccer team will travel to Providence Christian College, next Thursday, to play their final road match of the season. The team will close the regular season, at home, versus the University of California – Merced, on Sunday, November 4.
