Golden Eagles Survive for Five Set Win Over Bobcats

Merced, Calif. - After falling behind 1-0, the Golden Eagles women's volleyball team, came back to pull out 3-2 (23-25, 25-20, 25-23, 22-25, 15-7) win at the University of California Merced. It was the third straight win for the team, who have now won 12 of their last 13 matches. Tonight's match was the first of three consecutive matches over three consecutive days.

Despite being out-blocked by a margin of 13-2, the Golden Eagles were also able to overcome 36 attack errors with the help of 11 service errors by the Bobcats. Neither team had a stellar hitting night, but La Sierra did finish with a 62-50 advantage in kills, over the Bobcats, including seven kills against only one error in the fifth and deciding set.

Four Golden Eagles players finished in double-digits in the kills category, led by Kiana Krumm, with 18. Included in Krumm's tally, she also reached the milestone of 1000 kills in her collegiate career, in only her junior season. Ashlin Orosco had 16 kills, while Veronica Ramirez and

Asia Shelton added 14 kills and 11 kills, respectively.

Krumm also led the team defensively with 21 digs, followed by Emily Morgan who contributed 17 digs, along with Kyrsti Photias and Trinity Wyscarver who each added 12 digs in the match. Angala Jensen directed the offense and finished with a total of 54 assists.

La Sierra improves to 15-11 overall and 10-3 in Cal Pac play. The team will now turn their attention Friday afternoon when they travel up Interstate 5, for another Cal Pac match-up with Simpson University. Friday's first-serve is scheduled for 4pm.
