San Dimas, Calif. – Unable to hold on to an early second half lead, the Golden Eagles men's basketball team fell to 1-4 on the season, with Tuesday's 64-79 loss, at Life Pacific College. The Warriors were looking to avenge a home loss to La Sierra, dating back to last season. They used a timely, second half run, over a six-minute span, to win the first of two meeting between the two teams this season.
The game started with both teams jockeying back-and-forth over the opening minutes. Midway through the first half, the Warriors pushed out to an 11-point lead before the Golden Eagles clawed their way back to within four points, 34-30, at the halftime break.
La Sierra came out of the locker room and quickly took a six-point lead, their largest of the game, early in the second half. With just over 10 minutes to play, the Golden Eagles held a slim lead, 46-44, before the Warrior pulled away with the help of a 23-5 run.
The final story proved to be a combination of missed opportunities at the foul line, in addition to giving up 18 offensive rebounds, which resulted in 16 second chance points for the Warriors.
Kenny Lewis led the team with 15 points and five assists. Duane Darrett Jr. added 12 points, while Kyle Hamilton pitched in with 11 points on 4-of-8 shooting from the field. Rounding out the double-digit scorers for La Sierra was EB Idika, who contributed 10 points and five rebounds.
The team will remain on the road as they travel to Westmont College, for a non-conference game, on Saturday night, at 730pm.
