Riverside, Calif. - The women's volleyball team won their final regular season match, 3-0 (25-14, 25-18, 25-17), against the University of Antelope Valley. The match, aside from being a conference match, had no other significance in the conference standing, since the Golden Eagles had already clinched the #2 in this week's Cal Pac Championship Tournament. With the win, La Sierra improved to 19-11 overall and 13-3 in Cal Pac play.
Kiana Krumm had an efficient night with 13 kills against only two errors on 26 total attempts, for a hitting percentage of .423. She was the only Golden Eagles player to reach double-figures in kills. Asia Shelton also hit over .400, with eight kills, one error, on 16 attempts. Krumm also added 12 digs, which was second to Emily Morgan's 22 digs, for the team lead. Angala Jensen had 32 of the team's 33 assists and also had two service aces in the match.
Win or lose, the Golden Eagles already knew they had clinched the number two seed in the upcoming conference tournament. La Sierra finished behind Embry-Riddle, the number seven ranked team in the nation and regular season champions. Embry-Riddle will enter the tournament as the number one seed, and has the advantage of playing on their home court, as they will host the University of California – Merced, in their semifinal match on Thursday evening. The Golden Eagles will play Benedictine University in their semifinal match, immediately following the first semifinal match, at approximately 730pm. La Sierra and Benedictine split their two matches, during the regular season.
Prior to Saturday night's regular season finale, the women's volleyball program recognized five of their seniors (Noelle Hamblin, Shawnee Longmeyer, Emily Morgan, Hannah Schaffer, and Asia Shelton), who played in their final home match in their collegiate career. We would like to thank our seniors for their hard work and commitment to the women's volleyball program, congratulate them on extending their careers by at least one match, and wish them the best, both in the near and distant future.
