Merced, Calif. - The women's basketball team fell to 5-6 in conference play with Thursday's, 74-53, loss at the University of California – Merced. La Sierra was unable to overcome a slow start, as they found themselves playing catch-up the rest of the night. The team has three games remaining on their regular season schedule.
The Bobcats jumped out to the early 22-8 lead, after the first quarter, and were never able to close the gap, despite cutting the lead to 35-29 at the half. The Golden Eagles committed 31 turnovers that resulted in 28 points for the Bobcats.
Alexis Davis finished with a double-double of 12 points and 14 rebounds. She was one of three players who tallied 12 points for La Sierra. Mikayla Stitt and Vyvy Tran each scored 12 points in the loss.
La Sierra outrebounded the Bobcats, 38-36, but the Bobcats held a 17-7 advantage in steals and finished with an impressive 23 assists on 25 made field goals.
The women's basketball team will look to stay in the playoff hunt when they visit California Maritime Academy on Saturday night, at 6:30pm. The Golden Eagles defeated the Keelhaulers in their first meeting of the season.
