Baseball: Golden Eagles Drop Two Conference Games to Benedictine

La Sierra dropped both games, 4-12 and 1-8, of a Cal Pac doubleheader versus Benedictine University – Mesa, on Friday afternoon. The team was scheduled to play a 3-game series against the Red Hawks, with a single game on Sunday morning. The losses drop the team to 9-13 overall, and 1-7 in conference play. Due to the weather making the field unplayable, Sunday's game was cancelled and will be played when the Golden Eagles visit the Red Hawks on April 13 and 15.

La Sierra – 4, Benedictine – 12

The Red Hawks used three big innings to put this game out of reach for the Golden Eagles. Benedictine scored three runs in the 1st inning, followed by four in the third and five in the seventh. Andrew Lundstrom and David Roman both finished with two hits in the game, to lead the Golden Eagles offensively. Lundstrom also scored two runs for La Sierra. Jeremy Guerrero got the start and was charged with the loss after giving up nine runs on 10 hits, through six innings of work.

La Sierra – 1, Benedictine – 8

In a game that started as a pitching duel between La Sierra's Chris Johnson and Benedictine's Ivan Torres, eventually resulted in a second straight win for the Red Hawks, who swept the Friday doubleheader over the Golden Eagles. La Sierra took a 1-0 lead, in the third inning, only to be answered with two runs in the top of the fourth by the Red Hawks. La Sierra was held scoreless for the remainder of the game, while Benedictine added to their tally over the next fiving innings. Matt Majher finished the game going 3-for-5 for La Sierra to lead the team in hits, while Josh Jubile tallied the only RBI for the Golden Eagles, in the loss. Johnson went 6 2/3 innings, giving up six runs on eight hits.

The baseball team returns to action this coming weekend when they are scheduled to visit Marymount University. The two teams are scheduled for a single game on Friday afternoon, followed by a Sunday doubleheader.
