Five Second Half Goals Propel Golden Eagles to First Victory of Season

Riverside, Calif. – After Pedro Blaquier broke through with the Golden Eagles first goal, 12 minutes into the second half, the flood gates opened and the team never looked back. The Golden Eagles defeated the University of St. Katherine 5-0, for their first win of the season, improving to 1-1. In what seemed like a lopsided field, La Sierra dominated possession time and limited the Firebirds to just one shot on the night, outshooting St. Katherine 25-1.

After Blaquier's goal, Felipe Mendizabal added a team-high two goals on the night, just two minutes apart. One of Mendizabal's goals was assisted by Luis Perez and the other was the result of a penalty kick after the Firebirds were whistled for a foul in the box.

With the Golden Eagles leading 3-0, Enzo Cambruzzi scored another insurance goal, on an assist by Isaac Recinos. Rodrigo De La O Peres closed out the scoring with an unassisted goal in the 84thminute.

The men's soccer team will look to carry any momentum gained from the victory into a tough road match at #22 Westmont College. The two teams last met back in 2012, in a 3-2 loss to the Warriors. La Sierra and Westmont will meet on September 3, at 3pm, in Santa Barbara, Calif.
