Costa Mesa, Calif. - Struggling to find their rhythm in the early going of Thursday night's non-conference match at Vanguard University, the Golden Eagles eventually lost to the Lions, 3-1 (9-25, 17-25, 28-26, 18-25). The women's volleyball team fell to 3-6 on the season and will look to get back in the win column next Thursday in another non-conference match.
The Lions offense and defense was clicking on all cylinders with Vanguard finishing with 53 total kills to the Golden Eagles 34 kills. They also held a 55-37 advantage over the Golden Eagles in digs for the match.
Vanguard finished with three players in double-figures, in total kills, led by Tobi Sanders and Kamelah Noel who each finished with a match-high 11 kills. The Lions also had three players in double-figures in the digs category, led by Rebecca Lowden's 16 digs.
Kiana Krumm led the Golden Eagles with nine kills, while Ashlin Orosco and Veronica Ramirez each added six kills in the loss.
La Sierra had 14 kills in the third set, the lone win of the match, hitting .323 in the set win. However, the Golden Eagles were unable to match that number or come close to it during the three other sets in the match. The team finished with a .138 hitting percentage on the night.
The women's volleyball team will now travel to Encinitas, Calif., next Thursday evening, to face the Firebirds of the University of St. Katherine, at 1pm. Looking to put an end to a four-match losing streak, the Golden Eagles will face the team that they defeated, in straight sets, in the first match of this year's La Sierra University Invitational, back on August 21.
