Medina Notches a Goal and Assist in Win Over USK

San Marcos, Calif. - Jennifer Medina scored a goal and had an assist in the Golden Eagles win over the University of St. Katherine, Tuesday afternoon, in San Marcos, California. La Sierra improves to 3-1 on the season as they prepare to open conference play later this week. The Golden Eagles sweep the season series over the Firebird, having defeated St. Katherine, at home, back on August 26.

The Golden Eagles controlled play from start to finish. They finished the match with a 46-4 advantage in total shots, including a 22-1 mark in shots on goal. Valentina Zito, the Firebirds goalkeeper had a busy day, making a total of 19 saves, with 16 saves coming in the second half alone.

Medina started the scoring with a goal in the 12thminute of play, off of a rebound and assist by Marissa Gonzalez. Anelis Villalobos pushed the lead to 2-0, when she found the back of the net off of a cross by Medina.

The Golden Eagles took the 2-0 lead into the half, before adding their third and final goal in the 67thminute of play. Marisol Bravo floated a ball just over the arms of Zito, on an assist by Andrea Sida, for an extra insurance goal.

The women's soccer team will now turn their attention to Cal Pac play, as the team travels north to play Sierra Nevada College, on Thursday afternoon, followed by a Sunday afternoon match-up with California State University – Maritime. The Golden Eagles defeated Sierra Nevada College last season, by a final of 1-0. The Maritime Keelhaulers women's program is in their first season of existence, with Sunday's match being the first competition between the two programs in the sport of women's soccer.
