Women's Soccer Opens Conference Play With Win Over Sierra Nevada

Lake Tahoe, Nev. - The women's soccer team opened the conference season, on the road, with a 2-1 win over Sierra Nevada College. The Golden Eagles improved to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in Cal Pac play. It was the second straight season the women's soccer team defeated Sierra Nevada by a one goal margin.

Marisol Bravo started the scoring with an unassisted goal in the 11thminute of play and held a 1-0 advantage until the Eagles tied the score at 1-1 with a goal in the final minute of play of the first half. The score remained tied through the halftime break and halfway through the second half.

That, was until Andrea Sida scored the eventual game-winning goal, unassisted, in the 74thminute of play.

Both goalkeepers finished with a total of seven saves apiece, but it was La Sierra's Melanie Ramirez who picked up the victory. The Golden Eagles finished with a slight advantage in total shots (18-15) and shots on goal (10-8).

The team completes their Northern California trip on Sunday afternoon when they travel to California State University – Maritime. The Keelhaulers women's soccer team is in their first season of existence.
