Golden Eagles Snap Losing Streak With Win Over San Diego Christian

Riverside, Calif. - The women's volleyball team snapped an eight-match losing streak by defeating San Diego Christian College in straight sets (25-20, 25-20, 25-17), in Tuesday night's non-conference match. The win put the Golden Eagles back into the win column and improved their overall record to 4-10 on the season. It was a short break from conference play, for La Sierra, who will return to Cal Pac competition this coming weekend.

The Golden Eagles seemed in control of the match for the majority of the night. In the first set, La Sierra held a slim lead for much of the set until pulling away towards the end to take a 1-0 lead in the match.

La Sierra then jumped out to an early 8-1 lead, in Set 2, and never looked back. The Hawks cut the lead to three points on multiple occasions but that was as close as they would get, before eventually dropping the set and falling behind 2-0 in the match.

The Hawks got off to a much better start in Set 3, before the Golden Eagles took their first lead of Set 3, at 7-6. La Sierra never trailed again and went on to sweep the Hawks, for their first victory since August 21 when they defeated the University of St. Katherine at the Golden Eagles Invitational Tournament.

Veronica Ramirez had another strong performance, with 10 kills, only two attach errors on 15 total attempts, for a hitting percentage of .533. Ashlin Orosco had an efficient 10 kills to finish with an attack percentage of .368, while Kiana Krumm contributed 11 kills in the win.

Setter Angala Jensen had 33 of the team's 35 assists, and libero Emily Morgan finished with 11 of the team's 37 digs.

The Golden Eagles ended the match with a 7-3 advantage in total blocks, with Ramirez and Orosco leading the way with three block assists each.

The women's volleyball team will look to carry the momentum and pick up their first Cal Pac win of the season, this coming weekend, in their two conference matches. La Sierra will travel to Providence Christian College, on Friday afternoon, at 3pm, before returning home on Saturday night to host, first-year program, Marymount University. Saturday night's match is scheduled for an 8pm start.
