Volleyball Notches First Conference Win of Season

Pasadena, Calif. - The volleyball team picked up their first Cal Pac win of the season, with Friday afternoon's 3-2 win (25-15, 23-25, 28-30, 25-7, 15-11), over Providence Christian College. The win is the second straight win for La Sierra, who defeated San Diego Christian College, on Tuesday evening, to snap an eight-match losing streak. It is also the first such streak for a team that opened the season with two straight wins in their first two games of the season. The team's record now stands at 5-10 overall and 1-2 in Cal Pac play.

After winning the first set, the Golden Eagles dropped the next two sets by a narrow margin before storming back to take the final two sets and walk away with their fifth win of the season and their first conference win. La Sierra finished the match with 65 kills compared to only 43 for the Sea Beggars. They also outhit Providence Christian by an attack percentage of .261 to .088. Each team had an equal amount digs (62).

Veronica Ramirez had another strong performance with a .400 attack percentage on 13 kills, only three errors on 25 total attempts. Kiana Krumm led the team with 18 kills, while Ashlin Orosco added 14 kills in the match.

Angala Jensen fed the hitters with a total of 50 of the team's 56 assists, to go along with 12 digs. Emily Morgan also finished with a team-high 23 digs.

The team will have a quick turnaround as they are scheduled to return home tomorrow night (Saturday) to host Marymount University, at 8pm. The Mariners are currently playing their first season as a program. Needless to say it will be the first ever contest between the two schools in the sport of women's volleyball.
