San Marcos, Calif. - Jessie Aramburo scored twice to lead the Golden Eagles to a 3-0 win over the University of St. Katherine, in today's non-conference match, in San Marcos, California. La Sierra completes the season sweep over the Firebirds, and improve to 3-4 on the season. The Golden Eagles open conference play this coming weekend, in Northern California.
By the final whistle, the Golden Eagles held a distinct advantage in total shots (26-4) and shots on goal (11-1). Manny Zendejas and Aramburo led the team with seven total shots and three of those shots being on target. Felipe Mendizabal and Enzo Cambruzzi each pitched in with four shots of their own.
Aramburo scored the first of two goals, early in the match, on a header from Zendejas in the 4thminute of play. Just five minutes later, Aramburo and Zendejas connected again. This time Aramburo knocked in another header, off of a corner kick from Zendejas. The Golden Eagles settled for the 2-0 halftime lead. Zendejas closed out the scoring with an unassisted goal in the 62nd minute of play.
The men's soccer team will travel to the north, for their first two Cal Pac contests of the season. On Thursday afternoon, the team will match-up with Sierra Nevada College, in Lake Tahoe, Nevada. Last season, the Golden Eagles defeated Sierra Nevada, 4-1. La Sierra will complete the road trip with a match at California State University – Maritime, in Vallejo, California. The Golden Eagles are unbeaten against the Keelhaulers in the past five seasons, having defeated Maritme, 8-0, in last year's match-up.
