WBB Pick Up First Conference Wins with Victories Over PUC and Maritime

Riverside, Calif. - The women's basketball team picked up their first two conference wins, in back-to-back fashion, this weekend. The Golden Eagles defeated Pacific Union College, 59-54, on Thursday night, then followed that win up with another, on Saturday night, against California State University – Maritime, 55-50. The wins push the team's record to 2-1 in conference play and 5-11 overall.

Trailing 19-22, the Golden Eagles took complete control of the game, in the 3rdquarter of play, by outscoring the Pioneers 21-8. Despite being outscored in the final quarter of play, La Sierra was able to hang on for the victory.

Sierra Cole shot 6-of-10 from beyond the arc to finish with 21 points. Siena Jones added 19 points, by connecting on 4-of-6 three points shots and 5-of-6 from the charity stripe. Alexis Davis pulled down a team-high nine rebounds, while Octavia Williams contributed another six rebounds in the effort.

La Sierra def CSUM, 55-50

The 3rdquarter proved to be decisive once again, for La Sierra, who outscored the Keelhaulers 16-6 in the third frame, and 31-16 in the second half of play. That proved to be enough to overcome a 34-24 halftime deficit.

Williams had a season-high 23 points to go along with eight rebounds, both team-highs. Arianna Sheehy added 11 points and six rebounds of her own, to help the team to victory.

The Golden Eagles will look to keep the momentum going as they head out on the road for their first conference road contests of the season. La Sierra will face Benedictine University on Thursday evening, before closing the trip out at Embry-Riddle University on Saturday night.
