Golden Eagles Split Doubleheader with San Diego Christian

Riverside, Calif. - After being rained out the day before, the Golden Eagles hosted the Hawks on Friday for a non-conference doubleheader. The Golden Eagles dropped Game 1, 5-11, before surviving a late rally by the Hawks, to salvage the split, with a 13-11 win in Game 2. The team's record remains even on the season at 3-3.

Game 1: SDCC def. La Sierra, 11-5

The Golden Eagles took an early lead with three runs in the 1stinning, but the Hawks answered with four runs of their own in the top of the 3rdinning, to take a 4-3 lead. La Sierra tied the score at 4-4 with a run in the bottom half of the 3rdinning, until the Hawks broke the tie with two runs in the 5thinning, taking a lead they wouldn't relinquish. San Diego Christian, leading 6-5, broke the game open, adding five runs in the final three innings of play.

The Hawks scored their 11 runs on 16 total hits, while capitalizing on three Golden Eagles errors.

Josh Jubile led the Golden Eagles offensively, going 3-for-4 with two RBI's in the game. Jacob Bretsch got the start for La Sierra, giving up six runs (four earned) on eight hits, through 5 2/3 innings of work.

Game 2: La Sierra def. SDCC, 13-11

Trailing 3-2, heading into the fourth inning, the Golden Eagles broke things open with nine runs, to take an 11-3 lead. The Hawks chipped away at the lead, scoring three runs in the top of the 5thinning and five runs in the 7thinning, but Johnny Carlberg shut the door with a strikeout to end the game and leaving the tying runs stranded.

Carlberg picked up the save in relief of Justyn Cartzdafner who started the game and picked up the victory. Cartzdafner went 4 1/3 innings, giving up six runs on four hits. Carlberg surrendered five runs and six hits through 2 2/3 innings of work.

Jubile's bat remained hit as he picked up three more hits and added five RBi's in the second game of the doubleheader. Andrew Lundstrom also pitched in with three hits and an RBI, while Tim Mendonca finished 2-for-4 with two RBI's.

The team will return to action on Sunday when they host Oregon Tech for a non-conference doubleheader, starting at 10am.
