Fullerton, Calif. - Back in action for Day 2 of the Summer Slam Tournament, the women's volleyball team was looking to build on an even 1-1 record through Day 1. They not only built on their performance from the previous day, but did so in convincing fashion with two straight set victories. The wins pushed the team's early season record to 3-1 with a week to prepare for their next set of matches.
La Sierra def. Taylor, 3-0 (28-26, 25-19, 25-19)
The Golden Eagles fought off one set-point before scoring four of the final five points in Set 1 to take the early 1-0 lead in the match. After trailing 1-0 to start Set 2, that proved to be the last time the Golden Eagles trailed for the remainder of the match. They went on to win the next two sets, and eventually the match, by a comfortable 25-19 margin.
Veronica Ramirez had her best match of the young season, by tallying 10 kills against just one attack error, with an attack percentage of .429. Matching Ramirez in total kills was Kiana Krumm who also finished with 10 kills in addition to 15 digs, and four blocks. Adiva Joseph added seven kills while Angala Jensen distributed the offense and compiled 29 assists along the way. Kyrsti Photias led the team defensively, amassing a match-high 17 digs. La Sierra was also aided by their play at the net which resulted in 16 block assists and 26 attack errors committed by Taylor.
La Sierra def. William Carey, 3-0 (25-11, 25-20, 25-13)
The team completed the Day 2 sweep, with a convincing straight set victory over William Carey, in their second match of the day. The Golden Eagles either jumped out to an early lead and never looked back or gradually pulled away from the Crusaders. William Carey struggled to find any offensive rhythm, in a match that saw them compile more attack errors than kills (17-16).
Krumm once again reached the double-figure total in kills with 10 kills, 16 digs, and five service aces. Trinity Wyscarver and Ramirez were right behind with nine kills, followed by Joseph who contributed six kills of her own. Freshmen Hannah Taylor led the team in attack percentage (.400) with five kills, just one attack error, on 10 total attempts. Jensen spread the offense around and finished with 36 assists, while Photias collected another 20 digs to lead the team. Photias and Krumm were two of four Golden Eagles players who tallied double-digits in digs, with Ayana Felton pitching in with 11 digs and Wyscarver totaling 10 digs in the match.
