Women's Soccer Drops First Match of Season in Loss to ACU

Riverside, Calif. - Coming off of a season-opening win against the University of St. Katherine, the women's soccer team played host to Arizona Christian University, on Thursday evening. But the Golden Eagles fell short on this evening, falling to the Firestorm, by a final score of 3-1. The loss drops the team's record to 1-1 on the young season, with another non-conference match just six days away.

On paper the match looks even, aside from the goals scored line. La Sierra held a slight, 14-13, lead in total shots. While the Firestorm finished with an 8-6 advantage in shots on goal. All six of La Sierra's shots on goal came in the second half of play.

Arizona Christian's Roshonda Blackwood, started the scoring with a goal in the 16thminute of play. Kylie Neafus pushed the lead to 2-0, in the 36thminute, sending the Firestorm into the halftime break with a two-goal lead.

The lead was pushed to 3-0, before the Golden Eagles scored their only goal of the match, when Marissa Gonzalez scored unassisted in the 80thminute of play.

Next Up: The Golden Eagles will host San Diego Christian in another non-conference match, on Wednesday, August 28. Wednesday's match, set for a 6pm kickoff, will be the second meeting between these two programs. Last season, the Hawks walked away with a narrow 1-0 victory over the Golden Eagles.
