Senior Spotlight: Abel Plascencia

RIVERSIDE - Abel Plascencia, a standout athlete from Yorba Linda, California, has left a lasting mark on the Golden Eagles during his five-year tenure at La Sierra University. His journey straight from Valencia High School directly to La Sierra is a wonderful example of resilience and drive. Throughout his career, Plascencia has embodied the essence of being a Golden Eagle, consistently demonstrating the qualities of a team player and a leader.

Plascencia's versatility on the field has been a defining trait, with his ability to play multiple positions including shortstop, second base, third base, outfield, and even pitcher. Despite facing challenges early on, playing only 20 games in his freshman year, Plascencia persevered, showing glimpses of his potential. Even during the shortened 2020-2021 season due to the Covid-19 pandemic, he earned recognition with the Sportsmanship Leadership Award, highlighting his character and commitment to the sport. However, it was in the 2021-2022 season where Plascencia truly shone. With an impressive batting average of .308 and a .401 on-base percentage, he proved to be a formidable force on the field. His performance earned him numerous accolades including the title of Most Valuable Player for La Sierra, as well as being recognized for his character and skill with the Champions of Character and Cal-Pac All Conference awards.

Reflecting on his time at La Sierra, Plascencia expressed gratitude for the highs and lows that shaped his journey. He fondly remembers the camaraderie and challenges faced both on and off the baseball field, acknowledging the profound impact it has had on his personal growth.

As Plascencia graduates with a degree in exercise science, his sights are set on a career as a personal trainer, aspiring to one day establish his own training facility. The La Sierra community extends its heartfelt appreciation to Abel for his contributions to the school and the team. His dedication and perseverance serve as an inspiration to all, and we wish him nothing but success and fulfillment moving forward.
