Golden Eagles are the 2025 Regular Season Champions in Debut Season

RIVERSIDE - In a storybook first season in the Great Southwest Athletic Conference, the Golden Eagles men's soccer team have officially clinched the 2025 GSAC Regular Season Championship, marking a monumental achievement in their debut season.

Just ahead of their final game of the season, the men's soccer team clinched the first place title. In addition, they claimed the victory in their final game of regular season play by defeating the Embry Riddle Aeronautical University Eagles in a 3-2 match.

The first half saw Elias Quintanar Macias with a goal from Alexander Munoz. The Eagles tied the match up late in the first half with a 37th minute goal. Neither team was able to add to their scores as time ran out. Quintanar Macias pushed the Golden Eagles ahead in the 64th minute of play off an assist from Vinicius Goncalves. Alvaro Romero scored the game winning goal off a penalty kick in the 75th minute. The Eagles added drama in the final minutes of the game with a goal in the 83rd minute to cut the Golden Eagles lead to one. The match completed and La Sierra was able to celebrate their incredible feat.

La Sierra finished conference play at 10-3 and had an overall record of 12-3-1. They finished the season on a seven game win streak and started conference play with a three game win streak. They ended the year with 45 goals.

Thirteen Golden Eagles scored goals for La Sierra this season with Sean Palena leading the pack with 11. Vinicius Goncalves, Elias Quintanar Macias, and Carlos Leon ended the season with 8 goals apiece. Jonathan Arriaga, Alvaro Romero, Damian Jimenez, Alexander Munoz, Jose Alcala, Christopher Remily, Rodrick Promis, Jason Pineda, and Ulises Morales have all scored one goal this season.

They ended the year with 28 assists with Palena again leading the team with 6. Goncalves and Arriaga totaled 4, and Quintanar Macias had 3. Romero, Leon and Jimenez walked away with 2, and Munoz, Alcala, Landon Mead, Christopher Aceves, and Joshua Mauricio each added one.

In goal, Abraham Perez finished with 48 saves and Saul Lucero had 3.

La Sierra has competed in an incredible debut season and we wish them luck as they head into the postseason set to be hosted at La Sierra University on Friday, November 7 at 1:00 p.m.
