La Sierra Volleyball Opens Season with Sweep of Westcliff
Irvine, CA — The La Sierra University Women's Volleyball team kicked off the 2025 season with a strong 3-0 victory over Westcliff University on a hot Friday afternoon at the Momentous Sports Complex.
The Golden Eagles got out of the gates quickly, opening the first set with a 5-0 run before cruising to a 25-10 win. Lanah Bergen and Sakura Pangelinan powered the offense, each delivering 10 kills to reinforce La Sierra's dominance. Though the second set proved tighter, the Golden Eagles held firm and claimed it 25-21.
The third set turned into a tense back-and-forth, featuring five lead changes, but La Sierra stayed composed. Ultimately, they rose to the occasion and closed out the match with a 25-23 win.
Julissa Rodriguez made an impact on both ends of the court, tallying 4 kills and 2 blocks. In the back row, Ava Himstreet anchored the defense with a game-high 29 digs, while Lindsay Delgadillo orchestrated the offense with 24 assists.
With the win, La Sierra begins the season 1-0. The Golden Eagles return to action on Wednesday August 27th, when they travel to Orange, to play Chapman Universirty.
