Golden Eagles Women's Soccer Earns 4-1 Home Victory Over Stanton
Riverside, Calif. - The La Sierra University women's soccer team defended their home field in style, defeating Stanton 4-1 behind a balanced attack and strong defensive play.
The Golden Eagles opened the scoring in the 13th minute when
Gia Aldama drove down the sideline and sent in a pinpoint cross to
Elaina Gonzalez, who slipped past the Stanton keeper for the 1-0 lead. In the 26th minute,
Samantha Torres chipped a clever ball into the box, finding
Priscila Alzaga who calmly finished to make it 2-0.
Just minutes later,
Leslie Lopez was fouled after a determined run into the box, and she buried the penalty kick with a strike to the left side to give La Sierra a 3-0 advantage. Stanton responded in the 28th minute with a well-placed shot from distance by Luna Chavez, trimming the margin to 3-1.
Before halftime, goalkeeper
Ali Razon made two clutch saves, including one off a Stanton corner, to maintain the Golden Eagles' lead.
Stanton came out aggressive in the second half, testing La Sierra's back line with several dangerous chances, but Razon stood tall with multiple close-range saves. The Golden Eagles began to slow the tempo around the hour mark and nearly added to their lead when
Alyssa Rangel Esparza's driven shot in the 78th minute just cleared the crossbar.
La Sierra put the game out of reach in the 89th minute when Lopez delivered again, this time striking a direct free kick into the back of the net to cap the 4-1 victory.
With the win, the Golden Eagles improved to
2-0-0 on the season. They return to action on
Sunday, September 7, at 10:00 a.m. at home, looking to extend their perfect start in front of their fans.
