Women’s Soccer Adds Another Win Against Nelson, 7-1

RIVERSIDE - Women's Soccer faced Nelson University for a midweek match. They hosted the Warriors for a 10:30 am start time on their home field.

The Golden Eagles defeated the Warriors 7-1, adding to their win column to give them a record of 3-0 on the year.

Leslie Lopez started off the Golden Eagles impressive scoring run with a goal in the 12th minute of the game. The game winning goal came shortly after from sophomore Tamara Gastelum assisted by Emily Baro.

La Sierra's defense held down the Warriors offense, with senior goalkeeper Ali Razon recording two saves on four shots.

An energized La Sierra squad made a statement early with 15 shots in the first half. Elaina Gonzalez and Samantha Torres recorded the Golden Eagles final two goals of the first half. Alyssa Rangel Esparza had an assist. Heading into the second half up 4-0, La Sierra was not done adding to their total.

Gastelum picked up her second goal of the game with an assist from Isabella Garcia. Nelson scored their lone goal of the game from a high bounce just out of Razon's reach from Janessa Lugo.

Rangel Esparza drew a hard foul in the box to obtain a penalty kick. Stepping up to the line, Rangel Esparza fooled the goalie and found the back of the net in the lower left corner. Torres closed out the game with a goal in the 86th minute assisted by Averi Costa.

Torres picked up her second and third goals on the year, Lopez also had her third goal of the year, Gonzalez added her second, Gastelum had her first and second goals of the year, and Rangel Esparza picked up her first goal of the year.


The Golden Eagles got off 9 shots in the second half to put their game total at 24. La Sierra saw 12 of their 19 total on the field today take shots on goal. The Golden Eagles continue to press their opponents and become more aggressive as they prepare to take on conference play.
