Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Golden Eagles Secure First GSAC Win

ALISO VIEJO - La Sierra men's soccer faced SOKA University of America for a Thursday night match at 7:00 pm. The Golden Eagles competed in their first GSAC match of the season where they secured the 4-0 victory.

Sean Palena picked up a two-game scoring streak with two goals against the Lions. Carlos Leon offered two goals of his own to seal the win for the Golden Eagles.

Palena scored the first goal of the game, that proved to be the game winner, in the 7th minute of play. Vinicius Goncalves had an exceptional opportunity to score with his coming off the crossbar and bouncing hard into the field. With the Lions unable to get a hold of the ball, Palena took charge and put the ball in the back of the net.

Sophomore Leon got in on the action in the first half with his second goal of the year. Goncalves continued to be in the mix for the Golden Eagles and offered the assist on the goal. Leon's third goal of the year and third goal of the game came in the 60th minute off the assist from Palena.

Palena added the final goal of the game off a free kick after a Lion yellow card and was just outside the 18 where he found the upper right corner of the goal.

Goalkeeper Abraham Perez picked up his second shutout game of the season with two saves on two shots on goal.

Captain Christopher Aceves made a goal line save in the first half to keep the shutout alive. The contributions from the offense and defense put the Golden Eagles in the win column for conference play.

It feels great to get our first GSAC win. The boys showed a lot of character tonight. They worked hard, stuck to the game plan, and earned this result. I'm proud of the way they competed and the way they represented our program," Head Coach David Trevino on the men's soccer victory.

Men's soccer is next set to face Life Pacific University at home Tuesday, September 23 at 7:30 p.m.
