RIVERSIDE - La Sierra women's volleyball returned home to face Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University for a Sunday afternoon match where they earned their first win in the GSAC.
Set scores were 25-23, 25-19, 25-23.
Ariana Pedroza was a leader on the court this afternoon with a game-high in kills of 14. She ended the game with a clip of .270.
Julissa Rodriguez turned in another incredible performance, racking up 11 on an extremely efficient .391 clip.
Lanah Bergen also continued her incredible season with 8 kills . Rodriguez and Bergen each totaled 4 block assists and a solo block, respectively.
Lindsay Delgadillo was a contributing factor in the team's kill count with 40 assists. She also tallied 2 kills and 5 digs. Ava Himstreet and Herlinda Casanova played the defensive game well totaling 19 and 13 digs.
La Sierra saw a season high of block assists totaling 14 coming from six different Golden Eagles. Four solo blocks were also picked up throughout the match.
Embry-Riddle jumped out to an early 3-1 lead, but La Sierra responded with a two-point surge to tie the game back up. ERAU responded with a 4-1 run putting them up by three. A Bergen kill ends the rally and Rodriguez gets them within one. Another kill from Rodriguez and an attack error pushed the Golden Eagles ahead. More back and forth between the two teams offered competitive rallies and incredible defense played on both sides. A kill from Rodriguez put the Golden Eagles up where they maintained the lead for the remainder of the set. A big kill from Hailey Frary solidified the set in the Golden Eagles favor.
Set two saw Embry-Riddle jump out to an early lead again. Pedroza breaks up the scoring rally, and then goes on a four point kill run with Emma Martini at the service line. The Golden Eagles did not trail again in the set and at their best lead by an eight-point differential. Capitalizing on a couple La Sierra attack errors, the Eagles chipped away at the lead. La Sierra ended the set on with kills from Abigail Hines and Pedroza, and secured set two win off a service error from ERAU.
Leading into set three up 2-0 in the match, the Golden Eagles were determined to secure their first win of conference play. La Sierra jumped out to a 6-3 lead, but ERAU clawed back to tie it at 8-all. A new lineup for ERAU gave the Eagles a new life and a battle on the court ensued. Set three saw 11 score ties and 7 lead changes. Back to back kills from Bergen put the Golden Eagles up 20-19. A block assist from Rodriguez and Bergen aided in the Golden Eagles breakaway. Kills from Delgadillo, Rodriguez, and Pedroza closed out La Sierra's win.
La Sierra totaled 47 kills on the match with 45 assists, 4 service aces, 4 solo blocks, 14 block assists, 62 digs, and 5 receptions.
The Golden Eagles are next set to take the court Tuesday, September 30 at 5:00 pm against Life Pacific University at home.
