Men's Soccer Shuts Out Pacific Union, 3-0

Box Score RIVERSIDE - Men's Soccer faced former Cal Pac Opponent Pacific Union College for their first regular season game of the year. The game took place at La Sierra's soccer field for a late Sunday night match.

Looking for their first win of the season, men's soccer took to the pitch with determination. The men's soccer lineup included 5 newcomers on the pitch, three transfers and two freshmen.

Elias Quintanar Macias offered the first shot of the game in the first few minutes with a result just over the cross bar. Carlos Leon applied pressure on the Pioneers just two minutes later with a clean shot on the goal.

A free kick just outside of the 18 put the Golden Eagles in scoring position. Sean Palena stepped up to take the kick but could not find the back of the net.

The Pioneers also posted a free kick just past the 18, but resulted in a shot high of the goal.

Palenas' second attempt on goal was aimed for the top left corner barely missing the goal.

Quintanar Macias scored his first goal of the season and of the game on a cross from Vinicius Goncalves in the 42nd minute of play.

La Sierra's defense matched the aggression of the Pioneers offense, ultimately standing tall in the first half. The Golden Eagles held possession for the majority of the first half. La Sierra led 1-0 going into the second half.

The second half started off with momentum from the first with a shot from Joshua Mauricio.

The Golden Eagles added to their score in the 55th minute, Mauricio perfectly placed the cross to find Carlos Leon. His header to the back of the net put La Sierra up 2-0 with much of the second half left to play.

Men's soccer showed their drive to win with another attack on goal. Alvaro Romero sent a cross to Rodrick Promis. A slight touch from Promis put the ball in Leon's line. A hard drive sent the ball just high of the top right corner.

Quintanar Macias beat the goalie on the near side from a pass from Palena. Palena did the work to beat the defense to set up the graduate student for his second goal of the game. This goal in the 85th minute added extra insurance for the Golden Eagles.

Men's soccer secured their first win of the season to put them up 1-0. They are next set to face Nobel University Tuesday, September 2 at 5:00 p.m. at La Sierra University.
