RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Daniel Garcia scored twice during a three-goal closing surge, as La Sierra defeated Bethesda University-California 4-0 on Aug. 22 at Soccer Field. Joshua Mauricio broke the scoreless tie at 42:09 with the eventual game-winning goal, sending the Golden Eagles into halftime with a 1-0 advantage and helping them improve to 1-0-0.

La Sierra controlled the attacking play from the start, outshooting Bethesda 8-0 in the first half. Joshua Mauricioconverted the Golden Eagles' pressure shortly before halftime, scoring on his only shot of the match. Bethesda goalkeeper Fabian Scharnhorst helped keep the margin at one with several saves as La Sierra continued to create chances.

The Golden Eagles finally opened the game up in the final 10 minutes. Daniel Garcia doubled the lead at 80:42 with an assist from Ivan Villagrana. Vinicius Goncalves made it 3-0 with an unassisted goal at 85:32, then Daniel Garcia struck again just 17 seconds later off an assist from Adrian Navarro to complete his two-goal performance.

Garcia put three of his four shots on goal, while Vinicius Goncalves also recorded three shots on target among four attempts. Carlos Leon was another consistent threat, leading La Sierra with six shots and five on goal. The Golden Eagles finished with a 24-1 advantage in total shots, a 16-1 edge in shots on goal and all eight corner kicks. 

La Sierra's defense completed the shutout with Abraham Perez and Angel Ayon sharing the goalkeeper duties. Abraham Perez played the first 72:19 without allowing a goal, and Angel Ayon handled the final 17:41. Bethesda's only shot on goal came at 89:58, when Angel Ayon made the save to preserve the Golden Eagles' second victory of the season.

The Golden Eagles are back in action on August 30^th as they host Pacific Union College. The game kicks off at 12:00 PM.
