Women’s Volleyball Battle in Five Sets Against Buccaneers

GILBERT, Ariz. - The Golden Eagles women's volleyball team dropped a five-set decision to Park University Gilbert on Thursday at Arizona Athletic Grounds.

Set scores were 26-28, 31-29, 14-25, 26-24, 12-15.

The Golden Eagles battled the Buccaneers in a match that saw three sets go over the two-point advantage margin. The third set proved to be the turning point in the match with the Golden Eagles falling by a 11-point differential. However, the Golden Eagles fought back to take set four and push a fifth set. The Golden Eagles took an early lead in the fifth set, but Park came out victorious.

The match did provide considerable accomplishments for La Sierra. Lanah Bergen had a career game high in kills with 21 with a hitting percentage of .327. She also led the match in kills on both sides. She added 1 service ace, 2 block assists, 7 digs, and 1 reception.

Abigail Hines, Julissa Rodriguez, and Hailey Frary were also big hitters for the Golden Eagles with 11, 10 and 9 kills respectively. Rodriguez totaled four block assists and Hines had three. 

Setters Lindsay Delgadillo and Sarah Patin offered 28 and 22 assists throughout the match, and Ava Himstreet led La Sierra with 27 digs.

The Golden Eagles next face No. 14 The Master's University Wednesday, September 17 at home for a 5:00 p.m. match.
