Women’s Volleyball Drops Game against No. 11 The Master’s

RIVERSIDE - La Sierra women's volleyball fell in three sets against No. 11 The Master's University. The Golden Eagles hosted TMU Wednesday, Sept. 17.

Set scores were 14-25, 15-25, 17-25.

Every set offered competition in the first few points. Despite flashes of brilliance, the Golden Eagles were undone with 19 attack errors and four misfires from the service line, opening the door for the Mustangs to complete the sweep.

Senior outside hitter Lanah Bergen continued to make her presence felt by leading the Golden Eagles for the second game in a row, delivering 9 kills with a .269 hitting clip in a steady performance. Alisa Gavva and Julissa Rodriguez finished with 8 and 6 kills each.

On the defensive end, libero Ava Himstreet anchored the back row with 16 digs, marking her fifth consecutive match in double figures. Rodriguez was also dominant with 2 block assists. Sarah Patin and Lindsay Delgadillo added 13 and 10 assists throughout the game.

TMU opened the match up with scoring the first point, but La Sierra was quick to answer back off a kill from Bergen. The Golden Eagles pulled ahead 5-2 with help from two more kills from Bergen and a service ace from Patin. The Mustangs went on multiple scoring runs leading the way to take the set. Despite valiant efforts from Sweetheart Salaveo, Hailey Frary, and Gavva, the Golden Eagles were unable to bounce back.

Set two opened with a 4-0 scoring lead from the Mustangs. With Herlinda Casanova at the service line, La Sierra went on a five point scoring run capitalizing on TMU's attack errors. The Master's took the next three points to reclaim the lead and hold it for the remainder of the set. Ariana Pedroza also contributed to this set with two kills.

In set three, the Master's again took an early lead, but kills from Bergen and Gavva cut the lead. TMU pushed to a six-point differential, but kills from Gavva, Rodriguez and Bergen, and a service ace from Emma Martini put the Golden Eagles within one. The Mustangs finished the set off with a win in the match.
